Jean E. Schweer (1921-2003) was a professor at the Indiana University School of Nursing who helped revolutionize continuing education for nurses. A graduate of Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana and Indiana University, Schweer joined the IU School of Education in 1955 where she established the first graduate program in Medical-Surgical nursing. The Indiana University Training School for Nurses was established in Indianapolis in 1914 in conjunction with the establishment of the Robert W. Long Hospital and in association with the IU School of Medicine to offer training leading to a Registered Nurse diploma.
